How do I manage an Interview?
Employer knows everything about the company and role and nothing about the candidate.
Candidate knows everything about themselves and little about the company and role.
It’s a really interesting area we explore with candidates in the run up to interview. Sure, you've got to build stock, sure, you've got to answer the questions, but the best interviews are the ones you do the least talking!
Try to keep answers to just 90 seconds, perhaps structure around this was the challenge? This is what I did and this was the outcome. This approach is clear, concise and on point with no rambling. It’s also very easy to check in with the interviewer and ask if this is what they were looking for? Or were you looking for something else? See what I just did? I got the interviewer to tell me more about what they are looking for and this makes it so much easier to match against their requirements, tick the box and move on!
It is tricky managing an interview, we all get nervous, we have a lot to remember, we are trying to take in a lot of information and figure out if this what we want, but this is YOUR career, you are the one who could be spending 40 hours a week in this role, it’s vital in the right way, you get what you need from the interviewer.
